Woburn, MA
Project: Renovation/Conversion for Industrial Use
Project Background: RSC provides single-dose prescription medication to hospitals throughout the United States. The major benefit to their clientele is the minimal chance for any medication errors to their patients. The company had been operating for some years out of leased space in an industrial park in Woburn. In 2002, RSC purchased an existing 25-year old masonry building in the downtown Woburn area which had been used as a warehouse and had been unused for some time.
Project Requirements: The architectural design plans required the installation of a structural steel supported second floor (concrete deck) with maximum clear space on both floors. An extensive renovation of the existing exteriors with the addition of a steel framed two-story atrium entrance system was also planned. Additionally, a large amount of site work was needed to remove shipping docks, garage door openings, construction of a new parking lot and sidewalk improvements. Budgets were fairly tight and little room for major unanticipated extra costs could be allowed.
